Bitcoin's difficulty drops 15.1%, Fidelity & Bitmain make more investments, Vertcoin a victim of 51% attack... again

Just a quick reminder that this newsletter is intended to be short and concise. We try to on purposely limit our curation to provide only the best, verified & most important events happening within the blockchain industry. Hopefully you find this newsletter as useful as we do, as we understand your time is important to you!

There is a lot of talk about the “mining death spiral” of Bitcoin, where it is no longer profitable for many miners to keep contributing their resources to the ecosystem = decline of hashrate = decline of price. Ari Paul explains that miners will have to uneconomically mine for ~2 weeks to reduce difficulty level to eliminate the problem.

Bitcoin just had it’s second largest drop in mining difficulty in history at -15.1%. This also makes the capital cost of a 51% attack significantly cheaper at around a range of $10 million. Not all are in agreement that Bitcoin is in a mining death spiral though: Opinion piece by Arjun Balaji of The Block.

Amazon Managed Blockchain released by AWS. Fully managed service that makes it easy to create & manage scalable blockchain networks using popular open source frameworks (Hyperledger & Ethereum).

PIVX released their v3.0 mobile wallet. It will be the first Zerocoin privacy-enabled mobile wallet.

Bitcoin Cash is officially split, market downturn continues, SEC launches enforcement against ICOs.

Lots of news this week in regards to price and legal moves by the SEC!

A criminal investigation is underway as Bitfinex and Tether are accused of price manipulation during last year’s Bitcoin rally.

The SEC has started settling with ICOs that were being sold as unregistered securities. Airfox and Paragon were the first targets of the SEC, which has since settled.

Bitcoin Cash (ABC & Unlimited) and Bitcoin SV (Satoshi Vision) have officially split after the network upgrade on November 15th.

Very cool, even during the recent wipeout of $40 billion in market cap and the drop from ~$200/ETH to current prices of ~$140/ETH, MakerDAO’s DAI stablecoin has remained pretty consistent as the system liquidated about 75,000 ETH of bad CDPs.

Bitcoin Cash contentious hard fork, ETH Devcon 4 videos up, SpaceChain launches first fully functioning node in space!

The Ethereum Devcon 4 talks are all posted on SlidesLive.

ZCash is already discussing future updates and feature goals to the ZCash protocol entitled “Blossom” after their successfull Sapling upgrade.

Bitcoin Cash will be undergoing a contentious hard fork in 2 days. The likelihood of the outcome will be a split chain (Same thing experienced by Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash over a year ago). This will not affect Bitcoin (BTC), only Bitcoin Cash (BCC/BCH) users.

SpaceChain launched their first fully functioning node into orbit on October 25.

Devcon 4 success, MakerDAO upgrades on UX & audits, PivX decentralized exchange launched!

Happy belated 10th birthday to Bitcoin!

And a congratulations to the Ethereum Foundation for the success of Devcon 4 in Prague. Livestreams of the main stage on Day 1 is available here and of Day 2 available here.

Lots of news from Zooko of ZCash: It has been a huge week for them with the Sapling network upgrade, presentation about privacy at Devcon 4 and the friendly welcome of ZCash by governments, including New York State. Twitter thread located here.

MakerDAO gives us an update about the status of moving multi-collateral DAI onto the mainnet. Security and quality is of utmost importance. Audit is currently underway by Trail of Bits. They also have a cool, new, user-friendly interface to make it even easier for you to open up a collateralized debt position to create DAI tokens!

PIVX has launched their decentralized exchange , the first zero knowledge proof - privacy enabled exchange that does not require KYC/AML. A great experiment to test their Zerocoin protocol and masternode network.
