Devcon 4 begins, Wrapped Bitcoin introduced on ETH Network, Successful ZCash upgrade.
Devcon 4 (Ethereum’s development conference) kicks off in Prague, Czech Republic. This annual conference is where much of the community gets together to update everyone on developments within the Ethereum community.
A small cryptocurrency exchange in Canada (MapleChange) was hacked for 913 Bitcoin. All social media was deleted and no refunds will be offered at this time.
HTC has released their cryptocurrency branded mobile phone called the Exodus. Early limited quanities are available for 0.15 BTC or 4.78 ETH (Approx. $942 USD).
ZCash successfully updated their Sapling network at block 419200, introducing network performance upgrades and shielded addresses.
The Ethereum network introduced WBTC (Wrapped Bitcoin), an ERC20 token fully backed by real BTC and stored by regulated custodians. The proof of reserves is on-chain, which shows the exact 1:1 ratio between minted WBTC tokens and Bitcoin stored by the custodians. When WBTC token holders redeem their tokens for Bitcoin, the tokens are burned. The minting and burning of tokens is in turn tracked and verifiable on the blockchains.
